Smooth hound fishing


Best time:  
Mid May - onwards - Over the last few years smooth hounds have increased so  heavily off Rhyl that I can now specifically target this species
.
Best tide:
Mid neaps to low springs 26' to 31', Liverpool tides
.
Methods:
Uptiding  fish hard onto the seabed using a 3/0 wide gape hook tied to 3' of 50 - 60 lbs mono baited with peeler crab or crab / squid, crab / mussel, squid / mussel cocktails
TACKLE
LIGHT UPTIDER / BASS / CARP OR HEAVY SPINNING ROD, ABU 6500 OR 7000 SIZE MULTIPLIER OR BAIT RUNNER SIZE FIXED SPOOL LOADED WITH 15 / 20 LBS BRAID OR MONO, PLAIN OR GRIP LEADS               ( DEPENDING ON TIDE )
