Gurnard fishing

mid May - early October, largest fish June - July

High neaps to low springs 26' to 30'. Liverpool tides

Methods:
Downtiding, fishing just before and just after slack water.
TACKLE
15 - 20 LB CLASS ROD, ABU 7000 SIZE REEL, 20 - 25 LB BRAID / MONO, THREE HOOK PATERNOSTER STYLE SCRATCH RIGS WITH PLENTY OF BEADS AND GLITTER OR BRIGHTLY COLOURED FEATHERS HOOK SIZE 1 - 3/0 BAITED WITH HOOK SIZED MACKEREL STRIP OR A GOOD CHUNK OF SQUID FISHED HARD ON THE SEABED, IT IS COMMON FOR THREE FISH PER DROP BY USING THIS METHOD. MANY GURNARD ARE ALSO CAUGHT WHILST JIGGING FOR MACKEREL
BAIT
A good Thumb size piece of Mackerel will see fish over 5lb in weight.

SOME OF THE GURNARDS THAT WE CATCH, AVERAGE SIZE 3 - 5 LBS WITH THE BIGGER FISH IN JUNE AND JULY

One up Two down, Mackerel feathers or Three boom Paternoster - any of these bait with a thumb sized piece of mackerel will catch Gurnards
